Congratulations Anil and Christina! This was such a beautiful, intimate celebration of this couple’s story. They met on OKCupid, when Anil sent her a very nerdy message detailed with facts on dead languages. Their first date was four years ago at MadCap, in downtown Grand Rapids. Anil proposed last summer during a camping trip to Yellowstone, on a gorgeous hike overlooking the canyon.

These two are so laid-back, full of love and laughter. And there was lots of laughter on the big day.

Congratulations Jessica and Eric! These two were troopers, with a location switch as we were all driving! Michigan- the weather isn't the only roller coaster we deal with here. They were so great about it and just rolled with the punches. That's a good quality in a couple. 

They met at work, starting out as friends, which lead into more... and have been together for four years. They were on a backpacking trip for the first time and it was storming. The next morning, the sun was shining and they walked down to the beach, where Eric proposed. It was very meaningful, coming out of the storm into the sunlight... 

The woods were really important to them in this shoot (probably because they are the bad-ass backpacking kind), so I'm glad we were able to get all of these photo opportunities at this park. 

The big day is September 15, so stay tuned! These guys are going to be so fun!

What is the difference between a family portrait session and "A Day in the Life" session?

NO POSING. 

I know, that scares most people. A documentary style of their home, kids, the chaos?? It sounds scary. But, really?! Not at all. Don't you WANT to remember this point and time? Don't you WANT to remember what it was like? Don't you want to remember your kid's favorite stuffed animal, that he couldn't go to sleep without it? How he made you read him the same book every night? How he crawled in your lap when you did? The rituals you had at bedtime-  brushing the teeth, singing in the bath, etc. The way he crinkled his nose every time he got in the water? Each little personality brings so many things with it. Don't you want to remember the tiny things that are so big?

Documentary photography is the new family session. It shows you so much more than a smiling face at the camera. It shows REAL life! Real personalities and idiosyncrasies. Real love. This is also an investment for your kiddos. They will want this in the years to come, believe me.
